Production Blog: Review

Image
Here comes the worst part of any person's life... Peer review! yes, the cursed revision of any student or worker who wants criticism of their work. Every time my teacher even hints at reviewing my peer's work my inside quiver in laziness. If not laziness, anxiety to have some intelligent bafoon give genuine feedback to my work. As you can tell, I don't like the idea of someone seeing the physical embodiment of my vision. Yet, necessary evils need to occur for me to do well in life. I showed my mother my work. Since she had to hold the camera in some of the scenes, it seemed fair to give her a draft of the final. Being a Gen X, she wasn't very hard to impress. Heck, if I put an explosion to end every scene, she would've clapped. She found everything impressive, but while very nice to my ego, did not soothe my anxiety of the actual quality of my work. So I moved on to a fresher set of eyes. I debated between showing my sister or a student. If I chose my sister, she mi

Production Blog: Editing

Image
^ This is what my iPhone and I felt like editing in the middle of the night. Since I've gotten the major parts of editing down, it was time to go into finer detail. The first step was putting in the text. Since I had the honor of self-producing, I can officially claim to be an indie producer. Indie, is short for independent. Plus signing everything with my name. For every scene, I gladly plastered my name in bold red text. My insides smiled in pride and joy knowing that little ol' me did something like this.  Onwards. Sometimes I wanted to put the test in negative space, but sometimes it fell on my face. This irritated me until I had the bright idea to incorporate some of those titles into the scene. Like, making it part of the scene instead of it lying on the screen if that makes sense. I mean there was only so much Cap Cut can handle and offer without a premium. Despite these faults, I tried to make it work. For most of the transitions of these titles, I tried several trans

Production Blog: Editing

^ I promise my editing is not that intricate.   This blog will be pretty straight to the point. I didn't make a lot of significant progress with my editing just yet. Nonetheless, here is what I did so far. First, I of course logged into Capcut to make a new project. Annoyingly, my phone was overloaded in storage, so before I could get further into editing, I had to clear my phone. Either it was me, or the fact that iPhones profit off of extra storage, it was a long process.  I put the scenes in sequential order. I started from the outside shot to the backyard scene. The scenes where it rapidly switched from me speaking to my inner voice were difficult to put in proper order. I kept getting the order confused and overthinking it. After looking back at my storyboard, I decided to go with the flow. After all, I could fix it later. If I woke up late in the middle of the night to realize my mistake, only I would really know. Don't be like me. After putting the shots and scenes where

Production Blog: Sqequence of Filming

Image
Here's another update of all the filming I have done. I've got to say the process was definitely a learning experience. Especially when it came to acting. Luckily, I just had to pretend the camera wasn't there at all and it became a bit easier. I have many takes on me messing up my lines or cringing, enough to overwhelm my ICloud. Nonetheless, this project takes the next step toward completion. In this blog, I will talk about the rest of the filming.  After filming the living room and the kitchen scenes it was time for the bathroom. It took many takes to swing the door open without hitting the glass shower wall. The sound wasn't exactly pleasant nor was the backlash from other residents in the house. Besides, cleaning up 20+ pounds of glass was outside my schedule.  There was no need to add real gore to the opening sequence.  Moving forward, after getting this part, I had to avoid getting red corn syrup on the white tile as I dramatically strolled up to the mirror.  Do

I set the camera to the exterior of my house, capturing its surroundings and establishing its location in the neighborhood. This shot sets the scene for the upcoming narrative, providing context for the viewer. I did this after returning from my walks from school, I found it to be a perfect opportunity. I positioned the camera on the tripod, capturing the steady rhythm of my living room clock as its hands moved with precision. This shot punctuates the scene, emphasizing the passage of time within the comfort of my home. I added an extra shot of me zooming in on the clock, just for backup. Now that the establishing shots or set, the real fun begins. I had fun doing this next scene. one scene involving multiple angle changes. These changes indicated a change in my outer voice and my 'inner voice'. Since I had only one phone, you can imagine how much of a pain it was. Of course, if I had more cameras it would been easier, but I don't want to invest in that money. Plus, they

Production Blog: Music Search

Image
I navigated the internet at night, the struggle to find copyright-free music is endless.  I had countless tabs open, many are locked behind paywalls or unclear licensing terms. I looked through search results, hoping to strike gold amidst the sea of copyrighted tracks.  My frustration was apparent in my family. I had realizing the importance of finding the right soundtrack for my project without risking legal consequences. I had to remind myself every click feels like a step closer to the revolution. Eventually, I finally discover a gem—a copyright-free website that fits my needs perfectly, bringing an end to the nocturnal nightmare. (Despite them redacting popular sounds on my favorite app- cough, cough.) Using Universal Music Group , I'm happy to find a selection of copyright-free music for creators to use in our  projects without worrying about legal issues. Their diverse catalog spans various genres, catering to the needs of filmmakers, advertisers, and content creators worldwi

Production Blog: Prepping and So Forth

^thats me    To make fake blood using corn syrup and dye, I begin by pouring corn syrup into a dish. Next, I gradually add red dye, swirling as I go, until I achieve the desired shade of red. To create an even hue, combine the materials thoroughly. If I want a darker color, I might add a bit of blue or black dye. Once I achieve the desired consistency and color, my homemade fake blood is ready for use in costumes or special effects. I put it into the fridge until the filiming came. I plan to seperate the batch into two on filiming day and put one in the fride temporarly to get thicker.  Though this is a half-way thought, so who know's if I'll get my desired effect. Making fake blood was a messy process; the syrup and dye combination splattered everywhere as I swirled it. Despite the mess, the end outcome was worthwhile because of the realistic effect it produced. Disregarding the expansion of my laundry basket. The Walmart tripod was easy to set up. I carefully opened it from t

Production Blog: To The Store

Image
Today, I'm going to Walmart to get a few specific products. I need to get corn syrup, red dye, a tripod, and a fake knife. These products are part of the extra flair I'll need will help them get completed.  As I make my way to the store, I expect a pleasant and planned shopping trip. When I arrive, I went through the aisles, beginning with the food department to find the corn syrup. With a clear list in hand, I  go find the red dye, making sure I choose the correct shade for my intended usage. Next, I'll go to the electronics store to find the tripod, carefully researching possibilities to choose one that best meets my demands. Cheap too. I headed to the craft department to get the fake knife, making sure to select one that looks realistic for the intent at hand. Some random people asked what I need with a fake knife. I laughed just to make them uncomfortable. Besides, don't question why someone would get a fake weapon. It's just common adequte. There's not much
